Thinking Beyond Sandwiches: Brightening Up Shropshire Memorial Teas with Grazing Tables and Outdoor Venues

Updated: Mar 24

Memorial or funeral teas are not something we think about until we have to and when we do they can be emotionally challenging to organize. These gatherings carry the weight of remembrance and the desire to create a soothing atmosphere. Many may think of traditional offerings like sandwiches and tea as standard fare. However, there's an opportunity to elevate these events to something else if you choose to. This post explores how grazing tables can transform a memorial tea, especially when paired with stunning outdoor venues.

We have catered for various Shropshire wakes, memorials or funeral teas and although we don't advertise it neccesarily, it is always something we are happy to chat about and help with. We had a beuatiful memorial this week and so it prompted me to talk about other optiosn you may have.

We have various options you could consider including hot food like fish and chips but also Grazing tables have gained popularity for good reason. They provide an inviting spread of delicious options while encouraging guests to mingle and connect over food.

Why Choose Grazing Tables?

Grazing tables can bring a refreshing change to otherwise solemn gatherings. Here are a few reasons you may wish to choose one:

  1. Variety and Appeal: Grazing tables can showcase an assortment of foods tailored to different tastes and dietary needs. From cured meats to colorful crudites and delightful cakes, there’s something for everyone. For instance, including gluten-free crackers and dairy-free cheeses ensures everyone has something in their bellys at the end of the day.

  2. A well-designed grazing table captivates the eye. Brightly colored fruits, arranged cheeses, and an array of fresh breads transform the food display into a beautiful focal point and adds some colour to the event.

  3. Grazing tables promote a laid-back, communal vibe. Guests can roam, snack, and chat freely.

Embracing Outdoor Spaces

The memorial tea that we served this week was hosted at Stanford Farm, an ideal venue that offered beautiful natural surroundings for the gathering. With open spaces and outdoor areas, it fostered a relaxed and memorable experience.

We have many events at Stanford, and it is always a firm favourite. It is our first time visiting for this kind of event but it was perfect!

Outdoor settings help elevate the mood. Natural light and fresh air can lift the somber atmosphere, making the event feel more celebratory.

Venues such as Stanford Farm provide more options for seating and food arrangements, allowing for a natural flow of guests. This flexibility is particularly useful for accommodating larger groups, enabling different activities or conversations around the memorial tea.
